Burbank [4:17]  lyrics
Burbank reacquaints you with landmarks specific to Venice Beach and/or Santa Monica, CA. The Boardwalk, The Pier, the old men playing chess; all make an appearance! I lived in Venice Beach in the 90s with some friends and worked at a beach-front cafe many days a week; however, the song actually began its life while I attended MTSU and lived in Murfreesboro, TN. I'm like that. Write a song about a place when I live in another place!

Subatomic Zero [3:40]  lyrics
High school wretchedness and disenfranchisement in general was the impetus for this song. One main theme is how people look to mass media as the great social arbiter or as the vehicle to usher change into their lives.

Beautiful Tattoo [4:05]  lyrics
This song is about finding something in your life from which you may derive some happiness and/or joy. I always imagine a young "co-ed" in the 1960s at Princeton gazing at a paisley in a cloth which hangs in a hippie house. She's the girl with the goal, the rule!

What's There to Eat? [3:56]  lyrics
This song is about defeatism and excuses, which I daresay many of us employ. A friend of mine was bemoaning the fact that he was "too old" to go to college. Nonsense!! Unless you're going to be a prima ballerina, in which case you need to have begun at age five, then, what are you waiting for?!

Guitars Cadillacs (Documentary) [4:49]  lyrics
Quite auto-biographical, this song is an homage, of sorts, to Dwight Yoakum (and his great song); life in general, and, the great scheme of things. Among other misery-making things, I was making about $8.25 an hour at a retail job, my apartment lease was almost up, and my aunt died. Plus, an old lover came back into the picture....so, this song weaves all of that together. The narrator looks back and tries to be thankful for all things present and past.

Onus OReilly [3:16]  lyrics
This is a song about living your truth. Onus was a last minute choice for the project. It has to do with a transgender person (a woman living in a man's body) who wants to live life in truthfulness. By the end of the song, Onus has made his choice to live as a her and is accepted by the community! Yea!

Amazed - Astounded [3:44]  lyrics
This song was ¼ written for a long time. I had one version that I finished but then surprisingly, I found carnival-themed lyrics that I had written in London 16 years before …they fit perfectly meter-wise! With a relationship set in the midst of a carnival metaphor, the narrator lets go of past, or do they

Aloysius [4:25]  lyrics
The impetus for this song came, oddly enough, from a few amazing and brief phone conversations I had in the 1990s with actor Nicolas Cage. It deals with materialism, romance, and an imaginary cat. I finished writing it in Arlington, TX some years later.

Dear Allen [3:52]  lyrics
When I lived in Nashville, I dated a young relative of musician John Hiatt. This guy suddenly had to deal with some personal issues and “couldn’t date anyone anymore.” Years later, this song followed. This narrator addresses ex-lover…there seems to be a little twist at the end, which is pretty much about codependency and the inability to LET GO!!!

You Run Deep [3:42]  lyrics
This song has the TITLE LYRIC in it! "And I was just looking....for someone I'll Never Meet." I was enjoying myself in New York's Central Park one weekend in Sheep’s Meadow. I wondered what life would be like if I had someone (in this case, a particular person from the past) who loved me and who was always there for me. Then, I thought about the myth of finding the "perfect person." Like, we may be so concerned about finding perfection that we overlook a good person with flaws. If you've already met this perfect person, then the term could mean someone you literally will never meet....like some celebrity or head of state. Subject: Abiding love versus that which never stays. Can also have to do with vacuous, superficial people vs. people of substance.

Single File Answer (Picked) [3:41]  lyrics
Ought to be easier when boy meets girl! I write few autobiographical songs, but this one is the truest.

Judas [2:31]  lyrics
We've ALL been betrayed......Was talking to this guy I'd know for a while. After a couple of months, I suddenly see he's in a relationship on Facebook!! Guess it was too traumatic for him to tell the truth! ; ) Just as I was going to sleep one night in 2008, some thought about "the Judas kiss" floated into my brain. I got up and this song just "wrote itself" in about 2 hours.
